There’s been so much happening around here that I haven’t taken the time to blog. Since August is halfway complete, I wanted to check-in and record what we’ve been up to. I’ll just stick to some basic stuff. It’s nice to look back on what I’ve done and feel progress! 🙂

This has been a busy month! We had fun celebrating Levi and Jayne’s wedding at the beginning of the month, and in between I worked on projects around the house. I painted our bathroom, and then the next weekend Aaron and I painted our bedroom. The next two rooms will be our guest bedroom and Shepherd/baby brother’s nursery. We have a proper guest bed, so that will be nice in time for football season. The Nix Hotel is open, but the room is pretty sparse… I’m working on it! It’s so hard for me to pick a paint color.

My garden has been producing a bumper crop of squash and zucchini, so we have a lot of fruit ready to eat. I have been pinning a lot of recipes, so if you follow me on Pinterest and are tired of seeing the nine thousand ways I plan to use up our squash, I’m sorry! Next year I’ll plant just one zucchini and one squash plant so we don’t have so many. My zinnias are finally coming up, too! These make me so happy. I bought a $10 bouquet from the farmer’s market last Saturday (which is a major splurge for me) and the flowers were dead by Tuesday night. The zinnias I cut from my own garden are still as pretty as the day I cut them, ten or so days ago. Next year I’ll plant lots more flowers. I blame pregnancy for making me feel so lazy/lousy and only doing a few rows. Also, cucumbers are flowering and tomatoes are green but there are a lot of them. There are four melons that are a little bigger than softballs (which I’m most excited about). The basil did exceptionally well, especially because I read that it can be tricky to grow from seed. I think I planted seven and five came up. It will be good for the pesto I plan on making and freezing this weekend.

Hi, Bunny Pie:
I’ve been working on football door hangers, too. You can check those out here if you’re interested.

After a really slow summer, my writing and editing work has picked up a lot in the last few weeks. Let me tell you, when it rains, it pours! But that’s a huge blessing to us at this time, so we’re just dancing in the rain over here. 🙂

Gosh, I love this little munchkin. We have the best, worst, longest, hardest, funnest, strangest, most routine and unpredictable days together. He’s talking a lot, saying more words, communicating with his whole body, making us smile by being silly, and pushing boundaries like a pro. He tells us yes and no all the time; my favorite is when he will point to something, mumble “mm hmm!” and nod his head. I am trying so hard to decipher his language, but it’s frustrating for us both when I can’t. He’s patient, though, and I’m working on it, so we will keep getting better. He loves his daddy more than anything in the world. He runs around the house finding pictures of Aaron and pointing them out to me, yelling “Dada! Dada!” It breaks my heart in the sweetest way. He says “dada” about 1000 times a day. “Up,” “chair” “kicat (kitty cat)” are other favorites right now. He turns 18 months old next week, and I can hardly believe it. He points to all of his body parts, points to my stomach and kisses it when we ask where brother is, and points to his heart when we ask him where Jesus is. It’s seriously the best. When he’s not crying for more food. Always hungry, that child is.

Life is good, and we are thankful.
